Located on a steeply sloping site in the Merewether hillsides this home was designed for a growing, young family, that wanted to make better use of their outdoor space and bring in a heap more natural light on what was previously a darker site/home with tall tree's and tall adjoining homes. The trick was to create an outdoor space with pool that was easily accessed, highly visible from inside for both aesthetics / visual connection to outside but also to keep an eye on the kids while playing and to have it remain relatively private from the neighbours...oh and get good solar access. The answer, creating a courtyard type space with the entire house planned around it meaning they can always see it, the neighbours can't, and its oriented to the north side of the home with also some east & west. Using a modern, raw, material palette which looks visually appealing and also remains lightweight on a sloping site build - Cemintel Barestone cladding, vertical hardies in dulux domino paint, colorbond monument standing seam roofing, travertine paving and pops of green and colour in the variety of planting bays and black bamboo systematically located for privacy.
